“I loved this book, much more than I thought I would. If you grew up in the 70s and 80s you need to get thisCollectionDX

ThRack Toys book  doesn’t fail to entertain and amaze. The world’s ugliest Batman toy? Check! Star Trek putty, complete with “As Seen on TV” bug? Check. Cylon sunglasses? You better believe that’s a big check! Page after page after page . . . and each time I think I’ve absorbed it all some other bit of strangeness makes me stop and chuckle.“- Battlegrip.com

” I can’t remember having this much fun flipping through a book on collectibles” Pop Culture Central

“If you ever had a Spider-Man parachuting figure or a tiny plastic Batmobile, this is a book you will enjoy. It manages to be both a gateway to discovery (MANIMAL toys?) and a window back on happy memories” Christopher Elam’s OWARI

WONDERFUL book!! FUN, FUNNY and INFORMATIVE!” – Glen B

“It is refreshing to have a fellow collector put their heart into something they love and turn a great product as Rack Toys.”-Rick

“..the material, no matter how incongruous, isn’t ridiculed in a mean-spirited, cynical fashion. Instead utter absurdity is celebrated, the weirder the better, and the more interesting.” -C Franklin

“If you grew up in the 70’s to mid 80’s this book is a true treasure.” -Mike P

“Rack Toys leaps into high gear with a foreward by cult toymaker Jason Lenzi and doesn’t stop until you have seen every supermarket toy that you pestered your mother for a $1.“-Snick

“The toys of yesteryear that I had long ago discarded, so beautifully displayed in the pages of “Rack Toys: Cheap, Crazed Playthings”, bring back the vivid and cherished memories I had long ago forgotten.” -Chris H

The TV section is particularly hilarious, as the author uncovered a number of wild and crazy toys featuring inexplicable licensing choices,” -Steve L

Coming December 2012

The cover to Rack Toys : Cheap, Crazed Playthings

Colorful packaging hanging from your pharmacists or grocer’s shelves, designed to entice you while you sat in your parents shopping cart.

Often terribly made, these strange playthings were low priced enough to wear down even the most frugal adult and were most likely forgotten or broken by the time you left the parking lot.

Rack Toys is a love letter to re purposed  illogically licensed toys that were not meant to be remembered.

Rack Toys: Cheap, Crazed Playthings is the new book from PlaidStallions Press and it celebrates decades of funs that broke really easy.

Shipping December 2012, Rack Toys is a 144 page, full colour softbound book by Brian Heiler. Rack Toys features literally hundreds of colour photos of toys from every decade and genre from the perfectly logical to the thoughtlessly odd, it is a love letter to an industry  our parents called “junk”.

Rack Toys will include an introduction essay by Jason Lenzi (Bif Bang Pow! Toys, Geek Shall Inherit Podcast), seven chapters covering topics such as Superheroes, Saturday Morning Cartoons, Monsters, Science Fiction, TV and Movie characters, Generic Joy and Knock Offs.
